Im just sick of juggling these 4+ externals drives around and cleaning out my OS drive Or somewhere somehow also/or think about a cloud backup solution Or move all data to a nas either just a 2 drive mirror and then additional backups to my existing externals, or fill 4 bays with a raid 5 and then backups to externals. I am wanting to move all my DATA off the HD and have only apps installed and running from the pc itself and be able to save, access and edit files but also have backups.Īt this point after all my reading I don't know if I should just get a bigger 4 GB USB or Thunderbolt drive to move my main photos directory to as well as the movies - the get a 4 bay synology (maybe a 418play or a 420j.) but only start with 2 mirrored drives for moving the rest of my data to and backing up the photos drive to as well as time machine backups I also have another 1TB usb drive that I have been copying over videos to (as I try to cull through that mess reorganized and get imovie to stop crashing) I backup this photos drive to another 1TB usb drive via carbon copy cloner I use Lightroom Classic for importing/editing my RAW photos to/from a thunderbolt attached 1TB lacie drive which has about 200 GB free About 650GB of this is 'documents' illustrator, word, excel, pdf, books, mac photos, itunes and 450GB of that is the damn iMovie Library! I back this up two ways - one via Time Machine to a (4TB) USB drive the other via Carbon copy cloner to another usb drive (ideally I take one out of the house but.) Netgear ORBI router (1 x RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet: 1 x RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet (WAN) ) I also have a current imovie library upwards of 450GB (should never have let it get to this but trying to cull it down but taking time) which resides on the OS HD along with word documents, digital books, itunes library, photos library (imports from phone) some illustrator and photoshop files. That being said I shoot RAW 90% of the time and have a lightroom catalog with images from 2009 taking up close to 800GB running from a thunderbolt connected lacie rugged 1TB (cross fingers I always had good luck with these little orange suckers). I am merely a hobby photographer (family, pets) so although I take way too many photos and can be better at culling I am only editing and sharing mostly for myself and family. Looking to update/improve my storage and backup situation. I know there is so much out there on the topic and believe me Ive been searching here, reddit, reading review, I think Im farther away from a decision and more confused. So here is another what should I do/get thread!
